About PlaceGuess
What it is
PlaceGuess is a daily geography puzzle. Each round shows you three photos taken at the same place somewhere in the world, and you guess where they were taken — first by picking the region, then by pinpointing the spot on a world map.
How to play
- Every day there are three games, the same for everyone. Each game has seven rounds.
- Look through the three photos — landscapes, streets, and a street-level dashcam or 360° shot. Use arrow keys (or tap the thumbnails) to switch between them.
- Click the region you think the place is in, then place your pin as close as you can.
- The closer your pin, the higher your score — anything within 50 km scores a perfect 1.00. Picking the wrong region halves the round's score.
You can play without an account. Sign up if you want your scores saved across devices and a spot on the leaderboard.
Where the photos come from
The photos are contributed by volunteers around the world: scenery photos from Wikimedia Commons and street-level imagery from Mapillary. Each photo's author is credited in the game as it's shown.
